Questions specific to the position

1. Should local taxing bodies have input on the ITEP program? Why or why not? Yes,local taxing bodies should have input regarding ITEP; predictability oversight, assurance of permanent jobs etc. It is at the State level ITEP is resolved and the city must comply.
2. How should law-enforcement agencies be held accountable to the city and its residents? Law enforcement agencies should be held accountable to the city and the residents by first having a consciousness of transparency and collaboration. A Community Advisory Board comprised of residents from each District 10 precinct/area and law-enforcement with on-going conversations regarding how to build an inclusive law enforcement department. Outlining responsibilities of communities as well. 'Coleman's Council'
3. How do you plan to address the discrepancies of public investment around the city, including economic investment, access to primary health care in north Baton Rouge, and issues of blight? Public Investment discrepancies District 10:
Economic Investment:Develop mentoring partnerships with large and small businesses, creation of jobs;collaborate with educational institutions...developing and understanding businesses.
Health Care:Accessible health care in Community Centers;addressing the 'food deserts', healthy lifestyle activities.
Blight:Landlord accountability; collaborate with Housing Authority DPW;Implementation of Succession Policies;Community buy-in.
4. How will you address parish-wide flooding? First, I would address parish wide flooding by working with DPW to make sure storm drains are cleaned and functioning. Next, I would work with the Mayor’s office to give input on the storm water management plan and see how this would affect the residents of East Baton Rouge Parish. Then, I would focus on funding sources to update and/or replace the storm drains to become more effective in removing storm water. Also, I would work to plant more trees and create green spaces. It is proven that green infrastructure can mitigate flood risk by slowing and reducing storm water discharges. The average evergreen tree can remove 4,000 to 6,000 gallons of storm water annually.

5. What steps would you take to ensure adequate oversight of agencies with dedicated funding to prevent overspending of taxpayer dollars by those agencies? Adequate STEPS of Oversight:
Create a team to access what is currently in place. Make necessary appropriate changes.
Host audit meetings with Agency Leads for budget reviews.Make appropriate recommendations as needed.
Accountability system implemented that require a more defined approval process.
