Questions specific to the position

1. Should local taxing bodies have input on the ITEP program? Why or why not? Yes. ITEP effects all parties, the corporations as well as the tax payers. I believe that taxpayers should have input on how corporations being incentives through ITEP are imputing back into the community via jobs, small business resources, training and housing, in which all effect the taxpayers.
2. How should law-enforcement agencies be held accountable to the city and its residents? Law enforcement should be held accountable to protect the residents of the city. They should be responsible to maintain logs of trainings and personality assessments conducted annually to assess the mental stability of the officers as well as non fatal de-escalation tactics.
3. How do you plan to address the discrepancies of public investment around the city, including economic investment, access to primary health care in north Baton Rouge, and issues of blight? I will be working to change the city code and blight ordinances that protect property owners to own property without properly maintaining them and allowing them to dwindle. I will be working to further the support of private organizations to restore blighted properties into habitable dwellings while using my resources with Housing Authority and Louisiana Housing Corporations to convert long term renters into qualified home owners. Building investment through ownership will then open up opportunity for additional commerce in our community.
4. How will you address parish-wide flooding? I will be working with upper level government to help activate and analyze our current storm water master plan.
5. What steps would you take to ensure adequate oversight of agencies with dedicated funding to prevent overspending of taxpayer dollars by those agencies? I will advocate for qualified accountant specialist to be hired in local government positions. I will also advocate for outside sources to audit the city’s agency to discover best practices for department funds moving forward.
