The League of Women Voters of Louisiana is actually two separate but integrally related organizations. The League of Women Voters of Louisiana Education Fund (LWVLA Ed Fund) is our 501(c)(3) voter education organization that works to register, educate, and empower voters on a strictly nonpartisan basis and is best known for producing the LWV Voter Guide, formerly a paper guide that is now platformed online at vote411.org/lwvla.
The League of Women Voters of Louisiana (LWVLA) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit and nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and to promote political responsibility through active participation in government. The LWVLA works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The purpose of LWVLA advocacy is to educate, inform, and to act on issues that reflect national and state positions that have been studied by and voted upon to consensus within the League.
Under its Nonpartisan Policy, LWVLA does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate for office. Under its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Policy, LWVLA seeks to reach out to members and volunteers who reflect our state in all of its diversity. The Nonpartisan Policy and DEI policies apply to and inform the work of both the LWVLA and the LWVLA Ed Fund.
As the state league, LWVLA supports six chapters in Louisiana: League of Women Voters of New Orleans (LWVNO), LWV of St. Tammany (LWVST), LWV of Lafayette (LWVLFT), LWV of Caddo-Bossier (LWVCB), LWV of Iberia (LWVI), and LWV of Tangipahoa.
